The ability to reach the search area quickly and remain on scene long enough to conduct a rescue are the two most important elements of SAR operations—every second counts when lives are on the line. Speed is particularly important for Canada given the vast territory of land and ocean that must be covered. The C-27J boasts a maximum speed of 325 KTAS (602 km/h). The long range of the C-27J allows the aircraft to reach locations anywhere in Canada’ SAR area of responsibility, including those in the far North and at sea and remain on station for extended periods of time; it can accomplish this from Canada’s existing SAR bases.
